Everything I do at Outbreath — counselling, equestrian wellbeing, Mind, Horse, Human — is built on the same framework. I call it CONNECT.
It isn't a technique to master. It's a way of moving through the process of growth, one step at a time.
You'll see it threaded through every session, and it's the structure behind the six-session journey in Mind, Horse, Human.
The Seven Pillars of Connect
-
Build genuine connection with yourself and those around you. Presence, empathy and trust are the foundation.
-
Observe with curiosity, without judgement. Notice what is happening within you, around you, and within the relationship — not to analyse or fix, but simply to see clearly. Curiosity opens the door that judgement keeps closed.
-
Notice the small details: thoughts, emotions, body sensations, energy and patterns. It's in these details — often overlooked — that real awareness lives. And awareness is what creates choice.
-
Nurture yourself and your relationships with kindness, self-compassion and care. Growth doesn't happen under pressure or through force — it happens in spaces that feel safe and supported, starting with the space you make for yourself.
-
Engage with courage. Step into the experiences that challenge and inspire you, even when they're uncertain. Change doesn't happen from the sidelines — it begins the moment you step in.
-
Communicate with clarity and honesty. Listen deeply, and express yourself respectfully — both with others, and with your horse. Connection grows not from being heard, but from truly understanding and being understood.
-
Learn to trust what your body is already telling you. Safety and awareness aren't the destination — they're what make trusting yourself possible. Trust is not about always knowing. It is about learning to listen.
Whether we're working together one-to-one, exploring Mind, Horse, Human with your horse, or simply finding a quieter place to think — CONNECT is the thread underneath it all.
